Shelley zooms into California
Earlier this year we were delighted to host students from Oak Park High School Shelley Society in California, via Zoom, with their teacher, Kathy Schultheis. We talked about Shelley's early life in Warnham and Horsham, and his family background, including his American connections via his grandfather Bysshe, who was born in the US.
We then discussed Shelley’s interest in a much broader sense of social justice and a change to the established order of things, which arose from his strong interest in what had happened in America and France. This influenced not only his poetry – he is one of the greatest Romantic and radical poets in the English language – but also his relationship with his family, and his life.
It was an extraordinary night and one we will remember for a very long time. This is what the OPHS Shelley Society said about the zoom meeting on their Instagram account, ' We have no words to show how much we appreciate the Shelley Memorial Project for taking the time out of their evening to talk with us. Again a big thank you to David and Carol from the SMP'
We would also like to thank the Society for holding a fundraiser on our behalf.
